From the Page to the Stage: John Biguenet on Translation and the Theater


Biguenet Biguenet is the author of The Torturer's Apprentice: Stories and the novel Oyster. His play Rising Water won the National New Plays Network Commission Award for 2006, the Big Easy Award for Best Original Play in 2008, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. An O. Henry award winner and New York Times guest columnist, Biguenet was twice elected president of the American Literary Translators Association and has published two volumes on literary translation. Biguenet will speak about a range of topics including translating international theater and his play Rising Water which takes place on a rooftop in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Actors will also perform a scene from the play, which is now opening around the country.
