Ronnie Apter, Professor of English at Central Michigan University, is a poet who has also written numerous articles and Digging for the Treasure, a book discussing Ezra Pound's contribution to the translation of poetic forms into English.

Her recent book from Edwin Mellen Press on the troubador Bernart de Ventadorn includes the original Occitan lyrics, three kinds of English translations (literal, free-verse, and singable), and a compact disk with musical examples sung in both Occitan and English.

In collaboration with Mark Herman, she is a translator of poetry and a translator of opera into singable English. Among the poets she or they have translated are the German humorist Christian Morgenstern, the contemporary German poet Richard Wagner, and the late Russian song-writer Bulat Okudzhava.

Their opera translations have been successfully produced throughout the United States, Canada, and England, and have been favorably reviewed in publications ranging from The New York Times to The [London] Times. Six have been or are scheduled to be published by Ricordi in Milan, Italy. In 1995, their translation of Marie-Hélène Delval's La Bible: Les belles histoires de l'Ancien et du Noveau Testament was published as theReader's Digest Bible for Children.
