Sam Grolmes is a published poet and fiction writer. He has taught English and literature at Japanese universities, both as a Fulbright Instructor and as an Associate Professor in a private college. He curently teaches Japanese language at the College of San Mateo, CA. Sam and his wife, Yumiko Tsumura, have recently published Poetry of Ryuichi Tamura (CCC Books, Palo Alto), which includes the first four volumes of his poetry in their entirety, plus two long poems. These six works constitute the poetry he wrote during the twenty years following the end of the war. Sam and Yumiko are currently at work on a volume of Ryuichi Tamura's collected poems, which will cover the entire scope of his career from 1946 through 1998. The translators spent six months with Tamura when he was a guest at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, and have continued to translate and publish his work since then.
