When our Poetry Inside Out instructor Laura Davis got this letter from a student, she showed it to us right away. We were blown away by the excitement and joy in the note, which validated everything Poetry Inside Out is trying to do: help kids write, think, and translate in a fun environment.
This was just one of more than 800 students we taught this past school year, and there were many others like him: the 4th grader who went from sitting in the back of the classroom doing nothing to carefully revising and editing her poems, explaining how easy it was after her Poetry Inside Out instructor explained the process. Or the 7th grade teacher who calls the program a “life raft” in her classroom because it’s gotten her kids engaged in learning and working together.
Exciting as all of this is, we still face an uphill battle with school funding, which is why we’ve kicked off a campaign to raise $10,000 for Poetry Inside Out to get ready to teach 1,000 kids in the new school year. Donations from individuals go a long way toward keeping the program going. If you can support Poetry Inside Out with a donation, our students will thank you.
