The Center’s literary translation program consists of TWO LINES, the TWO LINES World Library, and the Lit&Lunch reading series. These projects help to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of diverse communities by bringing world literature—both contemporary and classic—to new audiences.
TWO LINES
 The Center publishes TWO LINES, an annual anthology of international writing in translation. TWO LINES offers writing from over fifty countries, giving readers access to renowned and emerging writers from around the world. Founded in 1994, TWO LINES is both a venue for world literature and a forum for literary translators to exchange the latest ideas on translation. TWO LINES is one of only a handful of periodic publications devoted exclusively to new translations into English of international literature.
TWO LINES presents world literature in its original language side by side with its English translation. Each piece includes a short introduction by the translator framing the work in its cultural context and revealing the special challenges of translating it. This personalized view makes TWO LINES unique among anthologies of world literature.
For over a decade TWO LINES has published an enormous range of writing—from poetry, fiction, and essays to religious and historical texts, folklore, letters, and even music. TWO LINES has published literature from over fifty cultures, from Abkhazia to Vietnam, and from more than forty languages.

TWO LINES World Library
In 2007 TWO LINES launched a new publication series, the TWO LINES World Library. The TWO LINES World Library features the most flavorful writing from around the globe. Each volume shines the spotlight on literature from a specific section of the map, or at a certain language or tradition. Guest editors, rooted and deeply schooled in their field, edit each book.
The TWO LINES World Library continues the work of TWO LINES, which has
presented the best in international writing since 1994. Both the World
Library and the annual anthology are dedicated to bringing the thoughts and rhythms of global literature to readers, and to celebrating the unsung work of the translator.
This year's volume is New World/New Words: Recent Writing from the Americas, edited by Thomas Christensen, with an introduction by Gregory Rabassa.

Lit&Lunch
In 2006 the Center for the Art of Translation launched an innovative reading
series in downtown San Francisco.
Lit&Lunch features prominent writers, translators, and actors reading great writing from around the world. This free series encourages the audience to
sit down and experience a unique reading while enjoying delicious box
lunches. Lit&Lunch is an oasis in the workday that brings the highest
quality of writing from around the world directly to the public in a relaxed
and sociable atmosphere. The readings take place at 111 Minna Gallery at the
corner of 2nd Street on the second Tuesday of the month.
