Mujib Mehrdad
Mujib Mehrdad is an Afghan poet, translator, and journalist. His books of poetry include گلادیاتورها هنوز هم می میرند (Gladiators still die), which won the 2007 Afghan Civil Society’s literature contest; ماهیان از رگهای ما گریخته اند (The fish have fled our veins); سربازها (Soldiers); and مخاطب (Audience). Mehrdad served on the board of the literary organization کاشانهٔ نویسندگان (House of Authors), taught Persian literature at Al-Beroni University in Afghanistan, and edited Afghanistan’s largest daily newspaper, هشت صبح (8 AM). In 2021, Mehrdad’s most recent collection of poetry, کوچه دلفینها (The Avenue of Dolphins), won the prestigious Ahmad Shamlou Poetry Award for best collection of the year in Tehran, Iran. He is presently a research scholar at Florida Atlantic University through the Scholars at Risk Network, an NGO that arranges for universities in North America and Europe to host threatened scholars from around the globe.
