Translator
Kurt Beals is a PhD student in German at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on modern German literature, translation, and critical theory. His translations of authors including Ernst Jandl and Alexander Kluge have appeared in publications including n+1 and Dimen- sion2. His translation of Anja Utler’s engulf—enkindle is forthcoming from Burning Deck Press.

Katherine Silver has translated and published more than thirty books, mostly of Latin American literature, and her work has been honored by critical acclaim, awards, prizes, and other recognitions. Her most recent and forthcoming translations include works by María Sonia Cristoff, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Juan Carlos Onetti, Julio Cortázar, Daniel Sada, Horacio Castellanos Moya, César Aira, and Pedro Lemebel. She was recently translator-in-residence at the University of Iowa, and is the former director of the Banff International Literary Translation Centre.

Joel Streicker’s translations of stories by Ricardo Silva Romero, Luis Fayad, and Samanta Schweblin have or are scheduled to appear in Words without Borders, The Bitter Oleander, and Subtropics. His book reviews have appeared in The Forward and other publications. Streicker holds a PhD in anthropology from Stanford University.

Sarah Valentine is a poet and translator. She received a PhD in Russian Literature from Princeton University and recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has two books on Gennady Aygi, a monograph and a volume of poetry translations, forthcoming in 2011. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband.
