All things translation—July 2024 at CAT

Jul 3, 2024
Read about all things translation happening in and around the month of July.

This July, we’re lounging in the summer sun and soaking up as much of the outdoors as we can (drinking water all the while)! There’s so much reading to catch up on, so many amazing events to prepare, and even more translation to celebrate.

Speaking of celebrating translation, if you’d like to keep up with cutting-edge work in translation, consider a Two Lines Press Membership! You’ll receive every single book we publish—at least eight titles per year—delivered straight to your door, plus members’ only perks. Sign up today and receive exclusive extras, and come August, your first book shipment will include Celebration by Damir Karakaš, translated from Croatian by Ellen Elias-Bursać. Monthly and annual Two Lines Press Memberships available now!

Thirteen books to add to your summer reading pile, recommended by the staff of the Center for the Art of Translation.

We asked our CAT colleagues for their reading recommendations for this summer and beyond. Some of these are forthcoming or recently published books, and some are stirring backlist titles, but you’re sure to find a title that fits your mood. We’ve featured titles from Japan, Indonesia, Spain, and more.

This past school year, our second class of Poetry Inside Out(opens in a new tab) Teaching Fellows brought world poetry and translation to more than 150 students in classrooms around the country! Teaching Fellows add to a growing community of students and educators, build skills around creative and culturally relevant language instruction, and enrich the field of literary education with dialogue-based, collaborative, linguistically diverse materials.

“One of the most fulfilling educational experiences of my career.”

—Heidi Kern, 2023-24 Teaching Fellow

Applications for the 2024-25 Teaching Fellowship will open soon. In the meantime, we’re excited to share news and profiles from last year’s Fellows. Read more at the links below!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or online during our Spring 2024 events season! What a joy it was to meet new friends of the Center, see familiar faces, and experience beautiful readings and conversations together with you.

If you want to take a look at our most recently announced event—celebrating Under the Neomoon with Isabel Fargo Cole and Alexander Wells at Curious Fox Bookshop in Berlin—you can read all about it and some fall sneak peeks on our EVENTS page(opens in a new tab). If you attended an event this season, we’d love for you to take a moment and fill out our event feedback form(opens in a new tab).
