We asked our CAT colleagues for their reading recommendations for this summer and beyond. Some of these are forthcoming or recently published books, and some are stirring backlist titles, but you’re sure to find a title that fits your mood. We’ve featured titles from Japan, Indonesia, Spain, and more.
This past school year, our second class of Poetry Inside Out(opens in a new tab) Teaching Fellows brought world poetry and translation to more than 150 students in classrooms around the country! Teaching Fellows add to a growing community of students and educators, build skills around creative and culturally relevant language instruction, and enrich the field of literary education with dialogue-based, collaborative, linguistically diverse materials.

- Gulf Coast Prize in Translation(opens in a new tab) is open for submissions until August 31.
- National Endowment for the Arts Translation Projects(opens in a new tab) is accepting proposals, from now until January 16, 2025.
- Former jurors and recipients of the PEN/Heim Translation Prize have written and signed an open letter to PEN America (opens in a new tab)calling for the organization to relinquish control of the grant. More than 100 translators, including former jurors and grantees, have signed an open letter calling for the transfer of the PEN/Heim Translation Fund to another institution.
- Our very own Woodworm made Polygon’s(opens in a new tab) Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books of 2024.
- Cats in translation!(opens in a new tab) Kelly Jensen of BookRiot! recently compiled a list of literary translation books featuring our favorite animal.
