Charles Cutler has translated the work of Brazilian poets such as Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Thiago de Mello, and Joãn de Jesus Paes Loureiro, as well as contemporary Portuguese writers, including Maria Velho da Costa and Eduardo Dionísio. He was cofounder and coeditor of The Amazonian Literary Review and is Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Portuguese at Smith College.
