Ellen Hinsey

Ellen Hinsey is the author of Update on the Descent, The White Fire of Time, and Cities of Memory (Yale University Series Award). She is the editor and co-translator of The Junction: Selected Poems of Tomas Venclova and the translator of The Secret Piano: From Mao’s Labor Camps to Bach’s Goldberg Variations by Zhu Xiao-Mei, the memoir of a Chinese pianist growing up under the Cultural Revolution. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the New Yorker, Poetry, and the Paris Review, among others. A former Berlin Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin, she teaches at Skidmore College’s Program in Paris.
