Fanny Howe

Fanny Howe is a poet, author and translator. She has written more than 20 books of poetry and prose, and has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Poetry Foundation, the 2001 Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, an Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, among others. Critic Kimberley Lamm wrote, “Fanny Howe’s work is unique in contemporary poetry for its exploration of religious faith, ethics, politics, and suffering.” Her book of poems, Second Childhood (2014), was a finalist for the National Book Award. Howe was a professor of creative writing for two decades and is currently professor emerita of writing and literature at the University of California, San Diego.
