Gaby Brimmer

Author, Spanish
Gaby Brimmer is a Mexican-Jewish disability-rights activist with cerebral palsy. Gaby’s parents escaped from Nazi Austria and eventually arrived in Mexico City, where Gaby was born with profound cerebral palsy. She communicated by typing on an electric typewriter with the big toe of her left foot (the only part of her body that she could control) or by using her foot to point to letters on a “writing board.” Though able to utter sounds, Gaby did not speak. She teamed up with renowned Mexican novelist and journalist Elena Poniatowska to write the bestseller Gaby Brimmer (1979), a book about her life.
