Poet and translator Jorge Esquinca (born in 1957 in Mexico City) has received the Aguascalientes Prize, Mexico’s top poetry award, as well as a national Poetry Translation Prize. His nine books of poetry include Región (collected poems, 1982–2002) and, most recently, Descripción de un brillo azul cobalto (Description of a Flash of Cobalt Blue), which won Spain’s Jaime Sabines Spanish-American Poetry Prize. Esquinca has translated books by Pierre Reverdy, Henri Michaux, Adonis, H. D., and W. S. Merwin, among others, and has published a book of essays and a book for children. He lives in Guadalajara.
