Leopold Lahola

Author, Slovak
Leopold Lahola entered Slovak literature after the Second World War with three dramas (all were staged by the Slovak National Theatre), in which he dealt with the topics immediately resulting from the apocalypse of war. In these he stood against human lethargy and indifference vis-à-vis evil and suffering. He underlined the personal responsibility for everything that had happened to mankind in the war. His prose work has a similar character, where he shows the behavior of people on the edge, at the limits of life and death where a person’s interior and real nature is uncovered.
