Ottó Orbán

Ottó Orbán (1936–2002) was born in Budapest, the son of a Jewish father and Christian mother. After his father died in a concentration camp, he was sent to live in a children’s home where he began writing and gaining recognition for his poetry while still a child. He published more than fifteen volumes of poetry and was also an essayist and translator. He was a professor in the International Writing Program in Iowa and at the University of Minnesota.
