October was chock full of literary awards and we’ve pulled together the latest about those prizes and literary translation happenings for you.

Prizes

The Swedish Academy awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature(opens in a new tab) for both 2018 and 2019 because of internal controversies last year. The 2018 prize went to Polish author Olga Tokarczuk (opens in a new tab)and the 2019 prize was awarded to Austrian writer Peter Handke(opens in a new tab).

The National Book Awards finalists(opens in a new tab) were announced. The award ceremony takes place on November 20.

The 2019 Warwick Prize for Women in Translation shortlist(opens in a new tab) was released. The winner will be announced November 20.
