Introducing the 2024-2026 Poetry Inside Out Teaching Fellows!

Jan 23, 2025 | By Giovanna Lomanto

Meet our 2024-2026 Poetry Inside Out Teaching Fellows!

Two years ago, we welcomed our first set of Poetry Inside Out Teaching Fellows for a pilot program that we hoped would bring a deeper understanding of translation to classrooms across the country. We invited applications and selected five talented teachers to come together for retreats, regular meetings, and brainstorm sessions to research the effects of and best practices for bringing multilingualism to students from all different backgrounds. And the results far exceeded our wildest dreams.

Over the course of the past two years, we’ve had two cohorts of Teaching Fellows dedicate time, effort, and sheer brainpower to advancing our project to bring poetry and translation to their classrooms. Together, they are building classroom practices that contextualize learning, inspire student achievement, leverage and affirm students’ cultural identity, incorporate source materials, and develop creativity and critical thinking skills. These Fellows have published research papers in academic journals(opens in a new tab), presented at esteemed conferences, and most importantly, changed lives through their intentional curricula.

In 2024, we brought in our third annual cohort of Teaching Fellows—who are committed to not one, but two years of funding and support in their research practices. The 2024-2026 Teaching Fellows will each be introducing themselves to the Center for the Art of Translation community in due time, but we figured that the new year was the perfect time to congratulate them altogether.
