News
- The Netherlands’ largest book publisher, Veen Bosch & Keuning, has confirmed it plans to use AI to translate some of its books into English(opens in a new tab). Ian Giles, Chair of the Translators Association at the Society of Authors, called this “concerning news,”
- Call for Papers! The second annual Arconexiones Graduate Student Conference at Idaho State University investigates dynamic relationships within cultural and literary studies, focusing particularly on the Hispanic world, Latin America, and Spain. Submit by Monday, December 9.(opens in a new tab)
- The Sharjah Literary Agency has secured translation and copyright deals for 51 books in Arabic to be translated around the world(opens in a new tab) including three in Armenia, nine in Georgia, two in India, sixteen in Macedonia, four in Mexico, five in Nigeria, six in Serbia, four in Brazil and two in Ukraine.
- Full Stop, an online journal of literary and cultural criticism established in 2011, invites applications for two Full Stop Editorial Fellows(opens in a new tab). These six-month fellowships invite early career writers or editors to independently envision, commission, and edit an issue of the Full Stop Quarterly.
Prizes
- Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 National Book Awards(opens in a new tab), including the Translated Literature winners, author Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and translator Lin King, for their book Taiwan Travelogue(opens in a new tab)!
- Yilin Wang has won the 2024 John Glassco Translation Prize(opens in a new tab), awarded by the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada. Wang was named the winner of this year’s prize for The Lantern and the Night Moths(opens in a new tab) (Invisible Publishing), translations of selected works of five Chinese poets.
- Hinrich Schmidt-Henkel, longstanding translator of Jon Fosse’s work into German, has been awarded Norway’s inaugural Jon Fosse translation prize(opens in a new tab).
- Revelation Freshly Erupting by Nobel Prize winner Nelly Sachs, translated from German by Andrew Shanks has won the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation.(opens in a new tab)
