All things translation—February at CAT
February happenings at the Center for the Art of Translation.
For all you Punxsutawney Phil aficionados out there, you’re well aware that the old groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter. While some of us were hoping for an early spring, the continued chill is a reminder to hunker down. The current political climate calls for action, but with the wind and rain, it’s a good and important time to remember to stay warm—with the comfort of our loved ones, with practices to keep us grounded, and maybe even with a good book.
The Center for the Art of Translation is proud to bring international voices to the forefront of the conversation, highlighting how diversity and outside perspectives can enrich the way we think, act, and react. Rest assured, we’re still going strong! And you can read about all we’re continuing to do for the translation community right here.

Two Lines Press is gearing up for February 18: the day that The Voices of Adriana—the latest from Spanish writer Elvira Navarro, translated by Christina MacSweeney—is released into the world. The book is a thrilling metafiction, in which Adriana has become obsessed with her father’s online dating. Recently widowed, he’s on a self-destructive, manic search for a partner to accompany him through his twilight years. At the same time, her life as an isolated grad student feels unreal, and to fill the void of her mother’s death, Adriana begins writing, trying on different voices. She builds worlds from the online profiles of her father’s flings, that is until more fundamental voices—those of her grandmother and mother—begin calling out to her in the night. The Voices of Adriana is an innovative novel about grief and how we might reanimate the voices of those we’ve lost, not as ghosts, but as living parts of ourselves.
